UNIT 33 P2-M3

P2:

From the research I have looked at, I have came to the conclusion that eventhough i do love all of my artists researchers work, Apart from 1, my book will be in Colour despite my Artist Researchers work is in Black and White.

I think this is vital because when the artists took their photos they only had a black and white film or could only shoot in black and white and I think that it is important to photograph my holiday book in colour. I shall be using a normal lens on a Canon1100D.

I have chosen to photograph my images in colour because when you think of Australia you think of many different aspects, the accent, the wildlife what is there, the sight seeing, the nightlife, street life which is of the upmost important and because it is such a lovely and warm place I think that having colour throughout the book would fit it well.
Saying that if it was to be in black and white I would feel that if someone was reading my book and had never been there they might be taken by the views but would be missing out greatly.

Throughout shooting in Australia I shall be using different techniques using my Canon Camera, I shall be shooting portraits with the normal lens and even though I will have a basic lens i shall be shooting some panormaic shots at the same time aswell as wide angled lens images.

My ideas that have came from the research would be these:

  • The images created by Robert Doisneau give me an insight and a great sense of idea on what i could have in my book. The images he has created ade me think of making replicas to his images. I have described on my research post how his images and my images are similar I followed through with this idea.

  • Willy Ronis' imags make me wnat to photograph people in their workplace as well as my images being about Australia, as well as it all being about street photography he has included pictures which are different to Street life and I might encorporate that into the images.

  • Peter Denchs work is the only researcher thats images are in colour. I personally think that I could maybe try and re create some of his images but in completely different ways. In his work in most of his images there are always 2 things going on at a time in each image and I think if i was to try and re create that it would be quite difficult and also i think I would have to keep my eye out allot. This would be a challenge for me if I was to persue this work.
M2:
My ideas against the brief are pretty simple but I think it will work effectively and be quite different compared to other peoples work. Even though i will be using a basic normal lens to create my book i think the images what i will produce will be more than standard and my book will have a slight difference to it compared to other peoples.
My book will be about the differences of life style between Burton On Trent And Fremantle/Perth In Australia.
It is my idea that on every page there are two images what signify society and life and how people live in their environments and it will show the differences but similarities at the same time.

Even though people think that looking through a book can mean reading a story my book is not necesserily that. It is quite a simple book and the audience or viewer may go through it quickly or it may be read quicker than normal books but I am hoping it will be a book where you put it away and then you can bring it out and not necessarily think "oh this book is quite boring" it can be a refreshing book to look at if you havnt looked at it for a while.
P3:

These are images I took of my final book. I will discuss on some one why I have set the layout out specifically like that and why;

This is the start of the book, I wanted to give it a sense of comfort to the start of it and relaing, this gives the viewer of what the book is going to be like, and what will be shown.

Some of the images are like these two portraits, I wanted to make the design and layour of these perticular images so they were portrait style and not landscape, as they are both wakling in the same direction I think that it was important that the image was cropped to look like that and to bring as much attention to the image as it has.

On the pages thoughout the book it would be that the left hand sides background would be white and the right hand sides background would be black. I feel like the images I have placed on the right hand side really compliment the images and contrast well with it so was a sucessfull decsion.

All of these images were taken on a normal lens on a Canon 1100D DSLR Camera.

These images of the flowers I have made as big as I can. I think that the difference between the types of flowers of what they are is really important and I would like to show this by trying to make the picture as big as I can in this part of the book. As the colour of either side are beautifully bright I think that this has worked out well and not many other images should be re scaled this big and wide.

This image was actually a mistake that I made, the tree on the right hand side had a differeent picture to the one on the left. Even though I made the mistake I dont think it was too bad because no one really picked up on how different both are. I decided to ake this picture bothportarit as the direction of the viewers eyes go up and down again in the shot

The image above was done as the same principal as the image above as well with the direction of the image. For most of the book I have placed all my images in the middle of the page as I think this is mmost important when looking through a book. You wouldnt want an image to be on the right hand side or left you would want it in the middle.

I finished my bok with a cool ending with the Perth city scape.. It shows and sums up what the book is about and how different it is to the country we live in.. I think the white background makes it more relaxed ad has a chilled approach abut it and leaving it blank on the other side gives it a nice effect.

M3:

Throughout shooting in Australia and Burton I had been thinking of shooting the objects of comparison from my research ..
Instead of using coherent lenses, I used the same techniques i found from my research.. for exmaple these:

When taking images of the replica of this snow image I made it into my own  but chnaged it slightly. the only difference between both images are that I phitographed the street on thebridge when it was during the day and it was quite warm so the weather was a significant difference,

The other difference between the two are that I stood more to the center when I was taking my images, obviously I wanted to create the same look and image but had to put my own personal twist on it, with the composition of the image already about the two lanes on either side I wanted it the image to look more better so I stood in the middle of  the bidge and took the photo rather than the left.

Artist Research & Values of Garry Winogrand

Winogrand was influenced by Walker Evans and Robert Frank and their respective publications American Photographs and The Americans. Henri Cartier-Bresson was another influence although stylistically different. He roamed the streets of New York with his 35mm Leica camera quickly taking as many pictures as possible using a prefocused wide angle lens. His pictures frequently appeared as if they were driven by the energy of the events he was witnessing.

The value that these give out to me is that I could take many pictures of australia and Burton in not the typical locations. These images make me wnat to take photos of places other than main streets for xample the last mage is perhaps of an alleyway there which looks much wider than our Burton alleyways.

Artist Research & Values of Willy Ronis

These images are valued to me highly and I would draw them into my ideas by going to busy places and take image like these, These images are not all the same like some artists work, they are of completely different things for example one is of a busy skating rink, another is not just street life but workplacement, people working indoors also, I may not always take pictures of street life in my final book but a few may be of people working.
I am now going to describe on each image what I like about it.

Artist Research & Values of Peter Dench.

When looking at Peter Dench I have noticed that most of his images are all the same but different in everyway. The similarities of the images I personally feel are that there are always 2 different things going on in the picture, the focus may be one one person or animal but there is also something else happening in the image. This may be comical and run with the other person in the image or may just be a separate happning at the time.

Artist Research & Values of Robert Doisneau

I had came across a photogrpher named Robert Doisneau who took several photogrpahs of street life photography amonsgt other things aswell. Though his images were slightly hard to understand because his webpage is all written in french I managed to find images what I could relate to and inspire me to take for the assignment.

All of his images are in black and white and the pictures I have picked out kind of match my work as wel but taken differently as well.

'This first imsge is the image what inspired me to take photos of landscapes over in australia, for a start it would be a difference because this is shot in France Paris but the idea would still be similar that I take an image of the landscape view. I would get a sense of traffic in the image and sky scrapers.

This image is to me showing the skills of having a foreground in the image as well as a background and I have captured this in Rotnest Island with the hedges and shrubs being in the foreground whilst the background remains to be calm and water like, like the origional image but altered slightly.

This one when I looked at it came to mind that I should try and attempt to take an image of a main road looking downwards aswell which I think it really important. I would also like to slightly copy this image and photograph is a little left or right from center.
